emma’s 6th birthday!

a brief history of emma’s birthdays:

i can’t wait for another rainy day!

somewhere i have never travelled, gladly beyond
any experience, your eyes have their silence:
in your most frail gesture are things which enclose me,
or which i cannot touch because they are too near

your slightest look will easily unclose me
though i have closed myself as fingers,
you open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens
(touching skilfully,mysteriously)her first rose

or if your wish be to close me, i and
my life will shut very beautifully ,suddenly,
as when the heart of this flower imagines
the snow carefully everywhere descending;
nothing which we are to perceive in this world equals
the power of your intense fragility:whose texture
compels me with the color of its countries,
rendering death and forever with each breathing

(i do not know what it is about you that closes
and opens;only something in me understands
the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses)
nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands

(borrowed from the inimitable, and oh so fantastic e.e.cummings)

-cooler weather, rainbows and rainstorms.
-plans working themselves out of thin air.
-setting healthy boundaries, being assertive, cutting away toxicity.
-sleeping later than usual.
-3 day weekends & filling them up with dates & visits & outings!
-good music & working on the fall 2010 mix. it’s gonna be so great.
-prayers straight from the heart, & a loving, responsive deity.
-laughter tumbling through every room of my house. o joyful days!

an eclectic assortment.

wishing to try lavender honey from france

dreaming of a day spend on a quilt, a pile of books, and a pitcher of mint iced tea

remembering how much i loved this song at 16

grateful for this desk, it was uncle moe’s and i am super happy to have it in our home

recalling a visit with uncle moe & aunt dixie. i was 15. i’m the one in back with the unfortunate hair style.

thinking i have an addiction to taking pictures of flowers

future planning- i will eat here one of these days! and then alice waters will meet me and let me be a dish washer, and i will work my way up the ladder and then i’ll become a chef here. hehe 🙂
